Dura Mater Doula Care

Dura Mater Doula Care is a doula service focused on birthing and postpartum care, serving
the Atlanta, GA area. The founder of Dura Mater Doula Care is Lauren Hutcheson, a graduate of the
University of Colorado-Boulder, with her bachelor’s in neuroscience. Hutcheson also studied Latin,
which served as the inspiration for her naming of the business. “Dura Mater” is a Latin term, meaning
“tough mother”, referring to the portion of the skull that protects your brain. The client was
seeking logo design and brand establishment using this existing name.  

The design challenge was to incorporate a maze or labyrinth in the final logo solution, as the client
sourced this as being a reference to academic journals and materials published that use mazes as a
comparison to the ancient path of birth. Dura Mater Doula Care primarily focuses on the empowerment
and comfort of the mother during birth, by using a naturalist approach to birth.
